Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, Mansion & Museum
The picturesque Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, Masion & Art Museum, is the original home to Prince Eugen. It is located on the island of Djurgården. The museum includes Prince Eugen’s paintings, but also temporary exhibitions of other famous artists.
The Gallery
Start your tour at the entrance, located in the Gallery Building next to the Mansion. This part of the building showcases a temporary exhibit throughout several rooms. Rooms display not only the art of a notable artist, but also background information and history of the artist.
The Mansion
After viewing the temporary exhibit, follow the finished underground hall and stairwell up to the Mansion to walk through the main rooms of the historic home. The main rooms or the Public Apartment, on the main floor consists of the wood paneled foyer & stairway and three preserved rooms. Each of the beautiful rooms display Prince Eugen’s original furniture and his collections.
Continue up the grand staircase to the next floor to admire Prince Eugen’s personal works. Paintings are presented in several rooms throughout the second floor. Most of his work is landscape paintings that showcase the island of Djurgården, the city of Stockholm, and surrounding areas. Although he painted in the late 1800s and early 1900s, you should be able to recognize some of the local landscapes.
Lastly, head to the attic level to view the final exhibit. This is also another temporary exhibit featuring another notable artist. The artist’s works are displayed throughout several rooms along with background and history.
The Gardens
To finish off your tour, grab a snack from the Prinsens Kök cafe and enjoy the surrounding gardens. Walk around the many walking paths to see the many flower beds, sculptures, and fountain. Feel free to sit down at one of the many benches offering exquisite views of the gardens and the city of Stockholm.
Entry to Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde is 150 SEK per adult, 140 SEK per student, and free for children under 18. There is also a small museum gift shop located in the Gallery Building by the entrance and the Prinsens Kök cafe on the second floor. The restaurant, in the original mansion kitchen, serves coffee, pastries, and lunch options.
