Reunion Tower

Reunion Tower also known as The Ball, is probably the most obvious place to visit.  You cannot miss it when you arrive, especially in the evening when it is lit up.  The tower is in the downtown area and is visible for miles.

You can ride up the elevator 470 feet to tour the GeO-Deck.  The GeO-Deck offers a 360 degree skyline view of downtown Dallas and the surrounding metroplex.  The observation deck offers both indoor and outdoor viewing.  While you are there, don’t forget to get your free digital photo.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

Appreciate the beauty of the outdoors by visiting the Dallas Arboretum.  The gorgeous 66 acre landscape of trees and flowers is located on the shores of White Rock Lake.  The arboretum features several gardens, the Children’s Adventure Garden (an additional fee), four sit down restaurants, and several to go food areas. They also have a stage and concert area where they occasionally have live music.

Perot Museum – Museum of Nature and Science

Perot Museum is an educational museum for young and old.  Exhibits include dinosaurs and fossils, the science of sports, gemology, space exploration, nature, and so much more.  They also have a 3D movie theater with educational films designed for kids and adults.

The Dallas Zoo

Enjoy a day of family fun at the Dallas Zoo.  The 106-acre outdoor zoo is the largest in Texas featuring animals from every part of the world.  There is also a fantastic children’s zoo, as well as, several interactive experiences and animal encounters.  They also have the T-Rex Express Mini Train and The Endangered Species Carousel for the little ones to enjoy.

Fort Worth Stockyards

Visit the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District to get a taste of the West.  This little old town, with its western facades and brick roads, gives you a glimpse into the livestock history of Texas.  There are plenty of old-time restaurants, stores, museums, and cattle corrals to visit along the main street.  Be sure to visit during one of the two longhorn cattle drives on East Exchange Avenue.  Cattle drives are held at 11:30am and 4pm every day except Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  The show is entirely free!

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

The museum is one of the best for the history buff, especially those interested in President John F Kennedy.  While at the museum you will get a detailed account of the assassination of JFK.  Exhibits include the timeline of assassination, the motor brigade route for the president, and personal accounts including video and pictures.  The museum also gives background into Lee Harvey Oswald, details of his capture, arrest, and eventual death. In addition, there is a vast history of JFK with memorabilia. 

While visiting the Dallas area you may find plenty to do, but these six activities come highly recommended.  Not only are they popular and fun activities, but they each offer education and enlightenment for young and old.
