On arrival at the open airport, you walk into the bright sun and salty fresh air on the tarmac. The magnificent Caribbean Sea makes a stunning opening to one of best Caribbean islands. Get ready for some Fun, Sun, and Beach time in Barbados!
The beautiful island country of Barbados is the most easterly island in the Caribbean. It is a marvelous tropical get away for a couple or for a family vacation. With only a short flight from Miami it is a quick vacation destination for those living in the US.
The Resort
Although there are several places to stay on the island, we selected The Crane Resort in St. Philips. The Crane Resort, part of the Hilton Grand Vacations group, is completely self-contained. It offers several restaurants, shops, pools, and a semi-private beach. All the rooms have marble floors, full kitchens or kitchenettes, large balconies, and stunning clifftop views of the Atlantic. Some rooms even have small private pools or plunge pools which are a great way to cool off. Within the resort there are plenty of places to walk with paths and bridges through the many gardens. Follow further to the cliff edge with a magnificent view of the Atlantic and continue on to the beach below.
An elevator and stairs offer easy access to the semi-private beach will rolling waves. There are plenty of chase lounges and a tiki style beach bar that offer tropical cocktails. You will be set for a relaxing day in your swimsuit catching some rays and beach time in Barbados.
Activities
Explore Bridgetown
If you want to get out of the resort and explore the island, visit the capital of Bridgetown. There are plenty of good restaurants and shopping downtown or along the boardwalk.
Boat Tour
Plan ahead to reserve a boat cruise for the day. Boat tours are typically several hours and include snorkeling with the sea turtles and under water views of old shipwrecks. Many tours also offer lunch and cocktails throughout the day.
Rum Distillery Tour
The historic Mount Gay Rum Distillery is located minutes away from Bridgetown. Distillery tours take you through the history and heritage, as well as guide you through the rum production process. At the conclusion, guests can sample and purchase the premium rums made at the facility.
Scenic Drive
If you are up to a day of driving there is a lot to see. You can start by driving along the scenic west coastline of the island and see the Ragged Point Lighthouse. Built in 1875, the lighthouse has a spectacular view of the rugged eastern coastline.
Just a little bit further north you can stop at the gorgeous campus of Codrington College. The college with its lovely lily pond and palm tree lined drive, has a stunning view of the Atlantic. Continue through the beach town of Bath and then have a lunch in the small fishing town of Bathsheba. Continue on and you will find many other beaches and small towns. With stops, you may want to plan a few days to travel all the way around.
